Many people are unsure how to secure their completed puzzles. This post will guide you on how to fix a puzzle once it’s finished!
Many puzzle brands include a packet of glue and a scraper in the packaging. After completing your puzzle, you can apply glue to the front to fix it into place. This allows you to move, frame, and display the puzzle as you wish. Additionally, applying glue can enhance the colorus of the puzzle.
What are the methods for applying glue? What should you be aware of?
1. Protect the Surface
Place a piece of cardboard or a similar material under the puzzle to prevent glue from leaking onto the floor or the puzzle mat during the application process.
2. Apply Glue Sparingly
Use a small amount of glue and apply it in multiple thin layers on the puzzle surface to avoid heavy glue marks that might affect the image.
3. Let it Dry
Allow the puzzle to sit for several hours until the glue is completely dry. During this time, keep the puzzle away from pets and children.
You can also apply glue to the back of the puzzle to preserve the original colours of the image. When gluing the back, apply the glue in multiple thin layers to prevent it from seeping through to the front, which could ruin the effect.
For puzzles with special finishes, like matte textures, you might worry that glue could damage the image. In this case, you can use transparent tape on the back to protect and secure the puzzle. Be cautious, as removing this tape can damage the backing.
If you plan to disassemble the puzzle later, consider using transparent kitchen oil-resistant paper. It sticks firmly, can be removed and reapplied without damaging the puzzle, and has been tested and recommended for this purpose.
